Rosalio "Yoyong" Martires, a PBA legend, Olympian, comedian and politician, passed away on Tuesday, June 18.

He died peacefully at the age of 77, his daughter, Moby Leah Martires, revealed in a Facebook post.

"He has peacefully joined our Creator yesterday, June 18, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones during this difficult time," she wrote.

Amidst the heartbreaking news, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone took to X, formerly Twitter, and emotionally reacted to PBA great's demise.

In his short but heartfelt post, Coach Tim expressed sadness over the passing of Yoyong, whom he dubbed "one of my heroes on the hardcourt growing up."

"Yoyong Martirez, one of my heroes on the hardcourt growing up, passed away. RIP. Always remembered," Coach Tim penned.

Born in Catbalogan, Samar, Yoyong played for Southwestern University in Cebu and later for San Miguel in the now-defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA) and the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) from 1972 to 1982. He was also part of the Philippine national basketball team that participated in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany.

The basketball legend also entered showbiz as a comedian. Likewise, he became involved in politics in Pasig City, serving as vice mayor in 2004 and 2013 and councilor from 1995 to 2004 and 2013 to 2022.

Aside from Yoyong, there were other prominent personalities who died recently.

Jaclyn Jose passed away last March 2 at the age of 60. Based on the statement provided by Andi Eigenmann, her mother died due to a myocardial infarction, or a heart attack.

Deo Endrinal, the head of Dreamscape Entertainment, has passed away. This was confirmed by his son, PJ Endrinal, in a heartfelt Instagram post. Dreamscape also announced the unfortunate news on social media.
