- Duterte also praised the achievement of Hidilyn and stated that the country is very proud, "let bygones be bygones"

Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, during an 11-minute Zoom call with Hidilyn Diaz, moments after she arrived in the country after an overwhelming victory in the Olympics, pledged P3 million to the champ.

Hidilyn Diaz has finally returned to the Philippines after 18 months. It can be recalled that she was stranded in Malaysia due to the lockdown before the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She arrived home via a Philippine Airlines flight along with her team and Filipina Olympic skateboard finalist Margielyn Didal. The Olympic gold medalist landed at NAIA and was welcomed by Philippine Sports Commission officials.

She will not only come home with an Olympic gold medal but will be met with well-deserved rewards. She will be receiving P40.5M cash as pledged by government and private entities. The Olympian would also be the owner of several real estate properties. Foton also promised to give her a van and Phoenix also gave her free fuel for life.
