The Filipina weightlifter, who was stranded in Malaysia due to the lockdown before the Tokyo Olympics 2020, has finally returned to the country after 18 months.

According to Philippine Sports Commission's social media post, Hidilyn landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2. She was welcomed by PSC Commissioner Celia Kiram and Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey.

She arrived home via a Philippine Airlines flight along with her team and Filipina Olympic skateboard finalist Margielyn Didal who finished 7th place in the women's street skateboarding event.

Hidilyn Diaz is a Filipina weightlifter. She is also an airwoman. Hidilyn made history when she bagged the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold medal after winning the women's weightlifting 55 kg at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Hidilyn recently penned her first Instagram post following her “surreal” Tokyo Olympics 2020 journey. A few days after her win, the national athlete took to her social media page to pen an emotional post about her new milestone. She likewise thanked those who helped her achieve this success.

Hidilyn has shown gratitude to Philippine Airlines for assisting the Filipino Olympic athletes in their travel to Tokyo, Japan. The Filipina Olympic gold medalist wrote a thank-you note on PAL’s business class menu card during her flight from Tokyo to Manila. A photo of Hidilyn's thank-you note to PAL then went viral.
