Veteran entertainment columnist Lolit Solis recently took to Instagram to express her support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. amid growing criticism from various groups following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In her post, Solis remarked on the current political climate, noting a resurgence of efforts to undermine the government’s credibility. She emphasized the importance of respecting and trusting elected leaders, stating that they were chosen by the majority. Solis acknowledged that while it’s acceptable to question openly wrongful decisions, constant criticism and complaints can be counterproductive.

Solis also highlighted the multitude of challenges faced by the administration and the pressure leaders experience when addressing various issues. She praised the presence of efficient individuals like Undersecretary Honey Rose, who assist in managing governmental affairs. Solis expressed her approval of President Marcos’s actions, observing that the weight of responsibilities has visibly aged him, a testament to the difficulties of leadership.

Her sentiments come in the wake of former President Duterte’s arrest on March 11 by the ICC on charges of crimes against humanity. This development has intensified political tensions and led to increased scrutiny of the current administration.

Solis concluded her message by urging Filipinos to respect and support their leaders, especially as the nation approaches another election cycle. “Parang surreal ang mga nangyayari ngayon. Iyon bang parang balik noon na sobrang inaalisan ng ilang grupo ang credibility ng ating gobyerno. Iyon para bang lahat ng mali ibinibintang sa mga nakaupo ngayon. I will always say this, respect and trust our leaders. Pinili sila ng nakararami. Maliban na lang duon sa talagang openly na talagang mali ang ginagawa at desisyon.

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos Jr., also more popularly known as BBM or PBBM, is the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He also served as Governor of Ilocos Norte in 1983, holding that office until the ouster of his father, President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. In 1998, he was elected again as Governor of Ilocos Norte and served for three terms and later ran and won a seat in the Philippine Senate during the 2010 elections. He served as Philippine Senator until 2016. He ran for Vice-President during the 2016 elections but was unsuccessful and in 2022, he ran for president and won with a landslide victory.

Last year, Manay Lolit also gave her take on the SONA of PBBM. In her post, the veteran showbiz columnist said she finished the entire SONA coverage on TV. She also expressed pride to the declarations made by the president. Manay Lolit then asked her fellow citizens to do something for the country.

Previously, the veteran showbiz columnist, in a social media post, said her life is at a point where she’s ready to accept anything that happens to her. The veteran showbiz columnist then talked about the “emotional ups and downs” she experiences. She surmised these are brought about her old age and lingering ailment. Despite the things she’s experiencing, she’s still thankful to the Almighty for the friends she has around her.
