- The air-conditioned room currently has three bunk beds, water dispenser, a bathroom, and sink

- The Senate’s Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms assured that those who will be detained will find the room comfortable

The detention facility for suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo and her family in the event of their arrest or surrender was presented to Senate media reporters on Tuesday, July 16.

According to ABS-CBN News, the Office of the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms (OSAA) has finished preparing the detention facility located within the Senate premises.

The air-conditioned room was formerly a day care center and currently has three bunk beds, bathroom, water dispenser, and table.

As per Inquirer.net, this will be the first time the room will be utilized since it was refurbished in 2023.

Retired Lt. General Roberto Ancan, OSAA Head, also told the media, “This is not a jail. This is a detention [facility]. If this is a jail, then it will have railings.”

In a report by GMA News Online, the OSAA chief assured that Guo and her companions will find it comfortable if they are detained.

He also mentioned that the family is not allowed to bring any type of gadget. An OSAA telephone will be provided in case of an emergency where they need to make a call.

Alice Leal Guo was the Mayor of the Municipality of Bamban, Tarlac. She won as mayor during the national elections in 2022. She became known nationwide after her name was dragged into the ongoing Senate investigations regarding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations or (POGO) and the alleged proliferation of illegal immigrants. Her name has been the subject of many online memes since then. Now, the Senate has ordered her arrest for not attending the hearings.

Alice Guo has been charged with qualified human trafficking. The Philippine National Police, together with the body for combating organized crime filed the non-bailable charge against the suspended mayor.

The accountant of the suspended Bamban Mayor has been arrested. Nancy Gamo is one of those who was ordered by the senate to be arrested. Like the suspended mayor, the accountant was also cited for contempt due to non-attendance after several subpoenas were sent to her.
