If elected, Bongbong Marcos says he won't release SALN if it's used for politics

- Bongbong Marcos declared that if he will be elected as president of the Philippines, he will not be releasing his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) if it will be used for political attacks

- The presidential aspirant openly said this during a conference with journalists, moderated by Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles, a social media personality, vocal for supporting Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and BBM

- BBM underscored that if a SALN will be used for politics, then it would be better not to release it as political rivals could just use it and make issues

- He then cited as an example the late and former Chief Justice Renator Corona, whom he said that issues were made concerning the SALN even though there was no issue

Marcos added that, "It just gets in the way of everything, which is absolutely unnecessary."

It can be recalled that in October 2021, in Marcos' interview with ONE News, he was asked for his opinion on releasing SALN's and he said that it is right, and that it is for transparency and accountability.

“’Yan, okay ‘yan, transparency, accountability, tama ‘yan,” said Marcos.

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, also popularly known as BBM, is a Pinoy politician famous for being the only son of the late President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos. He served as Ilocos governor from 1998 to 2007 and then as congressman after stepping down as governor.

Bongbong Marcos is set to attend and ready to be interviewed by Boy Abunda in ABS-CBN's presidential interview. "The 2022 Presidential One-On-One Interviews with Boy Abunda" will be aired on January 24 to 28 on both the Kapamilya Channel and the Boy Abunda Talk YouTube channel. It can be recalled that Bongbong Marcos became one of the hot topics on social media for having refused the invitation to join the Jessica Soho presidential interviews. Four presidential aspirants obliged. They were VP Leni Robredo, Sen. Ping Lacson, Mayor Isko Moreno and Sen. Manny Pacquiao.

Anthony Taberna reacted to the controversy involving Bongbong Marcos and Jessica Soho. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ spokesperson, said that the former senator refused to be interviewed by Soho because of her alleged biases against him. Taberna said that politicians should not be criticized for refusing to grant interviews. However, he added that it is also wrong to label journalists and reporters as biased for asking politicians tough and difficult questions.
