Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has resigned from her party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
In a brief, handwritten resignation letter, Mayor Sara announced her decision to resign from the party she helped establish.
In a report by Rappler, HNP party Secretary General Anthony del Rosario confirmed the resignation letter.

Earlier, the mayor also withdrew her Certificate Of Candidacy (COC) for mayor and has asked her brother, Vice Mayor Baste Duterte to run in her stead.

A Manila Bulletin report has made public the content of the letter.
"To all the officers and members of Hugpong ng Pagbabago. It is with profound sadness that I hereby tender my resignation from our beloved party," the MB report, quoting the resignation letter of Mayor Sara, stated.
Talks have been rife that Mayor Sara is gunning for a national elective position, though has not made any declaration to that effect.
There are also talks that she might run in tandem with former Senator Bongbong Marcos, or take a different path and throw her hat in the presidential race.

Some sectors have been rooting for a BBM for President and Inday Sara for VP tandem, though there is no confirmation as to whether there is such ongoing discussion.
Political analysts claim Mayor Sara is going to play the substitution card used by her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, during the 2016 elections.
Recently, Sen. Bong Go stated that there might be some major political developments several hours from that time.
It would seem that Mayor Sara's resignation could be one of those developments.
The question now is who will she substitute, Sen. Bong Go who filed his COC for VP or Sen. Bato dela Rosa who filed his COC for president?
Both Sen. Go and Sen. dela Rosa have expressed willingness to be replaced if asked by party officials.
As to whom of the two Sara would substitute, if it does comes to that, might have an answer a few hours or a day from now.
An ABS-CBN news reported that Mayor Sara is now at the exclusive Balesin Island resort attending a birthday party, where prominent political figures are also said to be attending.
Rumors say former Sen. Bongbong Marcos and former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo have also been invited to attend.
Sara Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio, is the incumbent Mayor of Davao City. She was born May 31, 1978. She is the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte. She is married to lawyer Manases "Mans" R. Carpio since October 27, 2007. They met in Manila while Sara was still attending San Beda University. They have three children, Mikhaila Maria, Mateo Lucas, and Marko Digong.
Recently, Mayor Sara withdrew her COC for mayor of Davao City. Mayor Sara is up for re-election and based on her statement, it will be her younger brother, Vice Mayor Baste Duterte who will be running as mayor now.
After she withdrew her COC, Mayor Sara went back to the Davao City Hall where she was met with weeping employees. She reached out to one of the employees, hugged her, and cried herself while holding the employee. The video of this scene has since then gone viral.
