An 18-year-old Grade 10 student was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old schoolmate with a broken glass bottle in Barangay Poblacion, Lingayen, Pangasinan, leaving the younger student injured.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon as the victim was heading home from school. Police said the teenager was reportedly attempting to break up a confrontation when the suspect attacked him using a shattered soft drink bottle.
Following the stabbing, the suspect allegedly fled the area and went into hiding. Authorities later located and apprehended him during a follow-up operation in the neighboring municipality of Binmaley.
Initial police findings indicated that the incident was triggered by a personal disagreement between the suspect and one of the victim's companions. Investigators believe the victim became involved after attempting to intervene in the dispute.

The injured student was rushed to a hospital for treatment after sustaining a wound to his back.
However, the arrested teenager presented a different account of what happened. While in police custody, he claimed that the victim's group had previously bullied and provoked him in the days leading up to the confrontation.
He further alleged that on Wednesday, the group chased and attacked him, forcing him to defend himself. Despite insisting that his actions were an attempt at self-defense, the suspect reportedly expressed regret over the incident.
Police said the victim's family wants the suspect to be held accountable for the alleged attack. Authorities are preparing to file a frustrated murder complaint in connection with the stabbing.
Meanwhile, investigators are still attempting to obtain a statement from the victim's relatives to establish additional details surrounding the incident.
The school administration has also been asked to provide its account of the incident, which reportedly took place outside the educational institution.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances behind the confrontation between the two students.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead outside a school in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal, on Thursday afternoon, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt for the unidentified gunman. According to a report by GMA News’ Unang Balita, the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head at approximately 4 p.m. The assailant reportedly fled immediately after carrying out the attack, leaving the victim on the ground.
