The lives of a hardworking live-in couple were suddenly cut short in a devastating multi-motorcycle pileup along the Davao-Bukidnon road in Barangay Catalunan Pequeño, Davao City, during the early hours of a seemingly quiet Monday.

The victims, identified as a dedicated delivery rider and a hardworking call center agent, were just going about their daily routine when disaster struck out of nowhere.

According to an initial report by ABS-CBN News, the incident involved a total of four motorcycles in what authorities strongly believe was an illegal street race.

Police investigators revealed that three speeding motorcycles were allegedly drag racing at breakneck speeds while heading in the northbound direction.

In a terrible twist of fate, the innocent couple was simply traveling along the exact same highway in the southbound lane. Without any warning, the chaos spilled over into their path.

Detailing the devastating sequence of events based on gathered evidence, the initial police statement explained the catastrophic impact: "Nabangga umano at natulak ng isa sa mga umano'y nag-drag racing ang likurang bahagi ng nadamay lang na motorsiklo, at nabangga ng isa pang motorsiklo na kasali sa karera."

The immense force of the back-to-back collisions resulted in an unavoidable impact that instantly claimed both of their lives.

Following the devastating collision, the Davao City Police immediately took action. One of the involved drivers was severely injured in the crash and is currently being monitored in a local hospital.

Meanwhile, a second suspect was swiftly apprehended by responding officers and is currently detained at the Baliok Police Station, awaiting the formal filing of heavy criminal charges.
