A man in Malabon City ended up under arrest after accidentally shooting himself and allegedly possessing an unlicensed firearm.

According to a report by Gabriel Gonzalez on GMA News' Unang Balita, the incident happened at a bar in Barangay San Agustin, Malabon City on Saturday. The man was seen with a bandaged left hand, and traces of blood were still visible on his clothing following the incident.
Authorities said the man was drinking with former co-workers when the firearm accidentally discharged. Barangay officials said they were in the area after a resident asked for assistance in monitoring suspicious individuals who were reportedly targeting motorcycles.
The sound of a gunshot alarmed nearby residents and officials.

One barangay official recalled, "Naalarma kami. Kala namin may pumutok na gulong ganyan. Duguan na po yung isang lalaki po. Pagpasok namin sa loob."
The man sustained injuries to his left hand and leg. Personnel from the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately provided first aid before he was taken for further medical attention.
When responding, police officers checked the firearm they reportedly asked the injured man if he had the necessary documents and license for the weapon. However, he was unable to present any.
A barangay official explained, "Ang tinanong nila 'yung natamaan na sugatan kung may kaukulan siyang dokumento o lisensya ng baril ay wala siyang maipakita. So doon tuluyan na siyang inaresto ng mga responding pulis."
The man claimed that he carried the firearm for protection against individuals allegedly involved in motorcycle thefts in the area. He also explained how the accident happened.
"Nilalagyan ko lang siya ng bala yung bala tapos hindi kasya, napukpok tapos pumutok. Pagising ko po nasa ambulansya na ako eh."
He admitted that the incident served as a lesson for him.
"Lesson sa akin 'to kasi ayun yung nangyari."
The man is now being held at the Malabon City Police Station and is facing a complaint for illegal possession of firearms.
