In an unusual case of criminal deception, a man and a woman were apprehended by authorities in Bacolod City after allegedly pretending to be a romantic couple to facilitate a theft.

The incident, which occurred at a retail establishment in Barangay Alijis, was brought to light following a swift response from local security and police forces.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage initially depicted the two suspects walking down the street, appearing to be an affectionate pair engaged in late-night sightseeing.

However, the romantic facade quickly vanished when the male suspect, now wearing a face mask, returned to the store's display area.

He was seen using force to break the padlock of the cage holding liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks.

According to a report by GMA News Online, the store employee, Elias, noted the determination of the thief.

“Pinuwersa niyang (buksan) ang lock. Sa tagal, nabuksan rin niya. Nagtaka ang gwardya na bukas na ito,” Elias recounted, describing how the suspect eventually managed to bypass the security measure.

The theft did not go unnoticed for long. The store owner, identified as Celso, explained that their 24-hour security shift and comprehensive camera system played a crucial role in the arrest.

“Nakita niya na may nagbibitbit ng dalawang LPG sa other side kaya lumabas siya. Sinigawan niya. Tumakbo ang kawatan,” Celso shared.

The suspects attempted to make their getaway using a tricycle, with the stolen tanks loaded inside, but they were quickly intercepted.

The Bacolod City Police revealed that the suspects had no prior criminal records, suggesting this was a calculated attempt to use a non-threatening image to scout for targets.

By posing as a couple, they managed to blend into the neighborhood without raising immediate suspicion until the moment they struck.

Despite the successful recovery of the stolen items and the arrest of the individuals, the store owner reportedly decided not to pursue formal charges.

The suspects have not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations.

In other news, a tragic altercation in Bocaue resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman after she was reportedly attacked by her younger half-brother. Law enforcement officials indicated that the conflict was triggered by a disagreement regarding a request for fare money. The victim suffered several fatal injuries during the encounter and was pronounced dead prior to her arrival at the local hospital. Following the incident the 33-year-old suspect was taken into custody by police and is anticipated to be charged with murder.

Still in other news, a 37-year-old resident of Bokod was apprehended for the alleged murder of his 74-year-old mother within their shared community. The grim discovery occurred when a nearby resident noticed remains partially exposed from a shallow grave in the area. Investigators uncovered forensic evidence and bloodstains within the residence that the suspect occupied with the deceased. Local police are currently conducting a deeper inquiry to determine the specific reasons behind this violent act.
