An abandoned infant was accidentally rescued by a group of teenagers who were out searching for spiders in a remote area of Murcia, Negros Occidental, in an incident that has drawn concern and investigation from local authorities.

The discovery happened on the evening of April 15, 2026, in Barangay Salvacion. The group, led by Carl Arpon, was walking through a grassy and isolated path when they noticed what appeared to be a bundle wrapped in cloth.

“Akala namin, manika lang. Nang nag-flashlight na kami, nakita namin ang tiyan niya, humihinga pa siya, umiyak siya. Na-confirm namin na bata,” says Arpon.

Realizing it was a living infant, the group quickly carried the baby out of the area and brought the child to the Murcia Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) for immediate assistance.

Officials said the location where the baby was found was highly secluded, with little to no foot traffic, making the discovery even more alarming.

“Ibig sabihin, gusto niyang patayin ang kaniyang anak. Wala kasing dumadaan diyan [lugar kung saan nakita ang bata]. Ang daming kagat ng langgam ang bata. Mino-minotor natin siya, naibigay na ang lahat ng laboratory at medicine para sa bata,” says Elizabeth Agudo of the Murcia MSWDO.

The infant was found with multiple ant bites and was immediately given medical attention, including laboratory tests and medication to stabilize the condition.

Authorities are now working to determine who left the child in the area and under what circumstances.

Meanwhile, the rescued infant remains under the care of social welfare officials as investigations continue into the disturbing incident.
