A dangerous road encounter involving a counterflowing motorcycle rider and an approaching sports utility vehicle has drawn widespread attention online and prompted action from authorities. The incident, which nearly resulted in a crushing collision between a tanker truck and the SUV, is now under formal investigation.

According to a report aired on "GMA News Saksi", video footage shows the rider leaving his proper lane and moving along the side of a tanker truck after counterflowing.
Moments later, an SUV traveling in the opposite direction continued forward, eventually squeezing the motorcycle into a tight and hazardous space between the two larger vehicles.
Markus Lacanilao, chief of the Land Transportation Office, explained that both individuals share responsibility for the situation.

“Kitang kita kasi dito, may mali ‘yung motor dahil nag-counterflow siya,” he said.
He added that the SUV driver also acted improperly by continuing to push forward despite seeing the rider’s dangerous position.
“Wala siyang karapatan dun eh,” he stated.
Authorities have since identified the registered owners of the vehicles involved and issued show cause orders requiring the rider and SUV driver to appear before investigators.
They must explain why they should not face reckless driving charges or penalties affecting their driving privileges.
As part of the directive, both were ordered to surrender their licenses, which will be placed under a 90-day preventive suspension while the case is being reviewed.
Their vehicles have also been placed under alarm status.
Lacanilao advised motorists who witness similar violations to report them to authorities or document the incident through photos or videos to support road safety enforcement.
