In the Philippines, a pumping station is a flood control facility that helps move rainwater and wastewater away from streets and communities. In places like Quiapo, pumping stations collect water from nearby esteros and low-lying areas, then pump it out to prevent flooding, especially during heavy rains.

These stations also remove large amounts of garbage from waterways, which is common in busy urban areas like Quiapo.
