Investigators said the victims were about to pick up a family member from a wake in the area when a man suddenly appeared from a narrow alley and opened fire using a shotgun. Both victims were hit at close range and were declared dead at the scene.

Police identified the suspect as a cousin of the victims, though authorities have yet to disclose a possible motive behind the shooting.

Law enforcement officials immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene after the shooting.

Crime scene investigators recovered spent shotgun shells, which are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The incident has alarmed residents of Payatas, an area that has seen sporadic violent crimes in recent months.

In separate cases earlier this year, police reported fatal shootings linked to personal disputes and family conflicts in parts of Quezon City and neighboring areas, raising renewed concerns over access to firearms and the escalation of domestic disagreements into deadly violence.

Authorities said they are looking into possible family-related tensions that may have led to the attack, while also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby streets to trace the suspect’s movements before and after the crime.

Police assured the public that additional patrols have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence.

They also urged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to immediately coordinate with local authorities as the investigation continues.

Man killed in brutal stabbing by girlfriend’s stepbrothers in Cagayan de Oro

In an earlier report by KAMI, a family of three was shot dead inside their own store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. CCTV footage allegedly captured three men entering the shop, pulling down the roll-up door, and repeatedly shooting the victims until they were killed. Before escaping, one of the suspects was reportedly seen taking a bag and a cellphone belonging to the family. TV5 Frontline Pilipinas correspondent Gary De Leon reported that the victims had allegedly been receiving threats after lending ₱1 million to a fellow barangay resident, who was said to have used the money to fund a business.

In a separate local incident that also gained widespread attention, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed several times by her husband. According to a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita, the 38-year-old suspect carried out the attack inside the school’s faculty room. Police said a security guard was on duty at the campus at the time, but the suspect was able to enter and leave freely because he was known at the school. Authorities added that the suspect claimed he only intended to talk to his wife to resolve their problems, but the conversation allegedly turned into a heated argument that ended in a violent assault.
