Responding officers, led by Cimafranca, were able to locate and arrest Saycon shortly after the reported shooting.
Authorities said Saycon was placed inside a private vehicle as the officers escorted him back to the police station.
While on the way, Saycon allegedly launched an attack against the officers. He reportedly fired his weapon, hitting Cimafranca, Chua, and Temblor.
All three officers sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were declared dead.
Following the shooting, Saycon fled the scene. Police later confirmed that he surrendered at the Tanjay City Police Station at around 10:40 p.m., roughly an hour after the incident.
Further information revealed that Saycon is a resident of Barangay 7 in Tanjay City. Despite this, the crimes occurred within the jurisdiction of Sibulan town, where the victims were serving.
Authorities said a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine how the suspect was able to access and use a firearm while already under police custody.
Officials are also reviewing procedures surrounding the transport of armed suspects to prevent similar incidents in the future.
An earlier report by KAMI detailed a deadly shooting involving a family of three inside their own store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. Authorities said CCTV footage showed three men entering the establishment, shutting the roll-up door, and then repeatedly firing at the victims until all three were killed. Before escaping, one of the suspects allegedly took a bag and a cellphone owned by the family. TV5 Frontline Pilipinas correspondent Gary De Leon reported that the victims had supposedly been receiving threats prior to the incident after lending ₱1 million to a fellow barangay resident, who reportedly used the money to fund a business.
In a separate local incident that later went viral, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was fatally attacked after being stabbed several times by her husband. According to a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita, the suspect, who is 38 years old, allegedly carried out the assault inside the school’s faculty room. Police said a security guard was present on campus at the time, but the suspect was able to enter and leave freely because he was known at the school. Investigators said the suspect claimed he only intended to speak with his wife to resolve their problems, but the conversation reportedly turned into a heated confrontation that ended in a violent attack.
