Three police officers and a civilian woman were killed in a shooting incident involving a Police Staff Sergeant in Barangay Tubtubon, Sibulan town, Negros Oriental, on the night of January 9, 2026, authorities confirmed.

The fatalities were identified as Police Captain Jose Edrohil Cimafranca, the chief of police of the Sibulan Municipal Police Station; Senior Master Sergeant Tristan Chua; Patrolman Rey Albert Temblor; and Shiela Mae Dinanao. The shooting occurred at around 9:00 p.m., sending shockwaves through the local community and the police force.
Police identified the suspect as Staff Sergeant Bonifacio Saycon. According to authorities, Saycon fled the scene after the shooting but surrendered to law enforcement roughly an hour later. He is now under police custody as investigators work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Initial findings revealed that the three police officers responded to a report stating that Dinanao had been shot. After locating Saycon, the officers were reportedly escorting him back to the police station when the situation turned deadly. During the return trip, a shooting occurred, resulting in the deaths of all three officers.
