Police arrested United People’s Initiative convenor and retired major general Romeo Poquiz at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City on Monday.
The arrest was carried out through a warrant while he was arriving from a vacation in Bangkok, Thailand.
A report said Poquiz landed earlier than expected. Police officers were already waiting at the airport when his flight arrived.
Authorities said they informed him of his Miranda rights and served the warrant for inciting to sedition.

Records showed the warrant was issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 77.
Officials said the case is linked to Poquiz’s alleged involvement in a protest held at the People Power Monument in Quezon City on November 16 and 17.
According to his lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, the recommended bail for the sedition case is P48,000.
After the arrest, Poquiz was brought to Camp Crame for booking and processing.
Topacio claimed authorities violated his client’s rights by not allowing him to speak with his lawyers during the arrest.
He said they plan to hold those responsible accountable for the alleged violation.
Police, however, denied the accusation. CIDG-NCR chief Police Colonel John Guiagui said the lawyers were not present at the time because the plane arrived earlier than scheduled. He added that officers had to serve the warrant as soon as Poquiz arrived.
Guiagui explained that his team looked for Poquiz’s legal counsel but none were around when the arrest took place. He said the process followed proper procedure.
Topacio also claimed the arrest was meant to intimidate government critics.
He said Poquiz was being used as an example to silence those who speak out. The lawyer added that such actions cause stress not only to the person arrested but also to their family.
