The celebration of the New Year turned into a bloody family tragedy in La Paz, Iloilo, as a father was allegedly assaulted by his own flesh and blood. At around 4:00 AM on January 1, while most families were enjoying the first morning of 2026, a 53-year-old man identified as "Rick" was being rushed for medical help after his teenage son, "Noy," turned violent.

In an emotional interview, Rick recalled that he and his wife were peacefully sleeping when they were jolted awake by a loud noise. His 17-year-old son, an out-of-school youth, had arrived home appearing heavily under the influence of alcohol. Noy was reportedly shouting and creating a disturbance, prompting Rick to get out of bed to confront him.

The situation quickly escalated. Rick admitted that he tried to discipline the boy by attempting to kick him, though he did not make contact. When the teenager went outside their house, Rick followed him, hoping to settle the matter. However, it was there that things took a darker turn. Rick alleged that his son, along with a few of his friends who were waiting outside, ganged up on him.

During the struggle, Noy allegedly picked up a glass bottle and smashed it against his father’s head. The 53-year-old was also punched multiple times. Rick sustained a deep cut near his left eye and several abrasions on his back. Neighbors who witnessed the commotion were left in shock as the father was left bloody right in front of their home.

Beyond the physical wounds, Rick expressed a deeper concern for his son’s well-being and behavior. He claimed that his son has been using prohibited substances and that this might be the reason for his sudden shifts in mood and aggression. The father even mentioned that he is now determined to have his son undergo laboratory testing for harmful elements to confirm his suspicions and get the boy the help he needs.

Family violence remains a recurring and painful issue in the Philippines, often resulting in tragic endings for relatives. In a previous report, a senior citizen allegedly stabbed his nephew to death during a heated encounter. The suspect did not stop there, as he reportedly attempted to attack a neighbor who tried to intervene in the bloody dispute.
