A festive season turned into a gruesome tragedy in Mobo, Masbate, as a woman failed to reach the New Year’s Eve celebration after being killed by her own partner. The victim, identified only as Lorna, was allegedly beaten to death by her live-in partner, Gilbert, during a domestic dispute that spiraled out of control.

The incident took place inside their residence in Barangay Poblacion 2 on the morning of December 30. According to police reports, the couple began a heated argument around 7:00 AM for reasons that have yet to be fully determined by investigators.
In the middle of their intense confrontation, the situation turned fatal when Gilbert reportedly grabbed a "dos-por-dos" (a thick wooden plank). He then used the piece of wood to repeatedly strike Lorna on various parts of her body. Because of the severity of the blows, Lorna succumbed to her injuries immediately.
Realizing what had happened, Gilbert fled the house to evade the law. However, his freedom was short-lived. Members of the Mobo Police launched a hot pursuit operation to track down the suspect. By 4:00 PM that same day, authorities successfully apprehended Gilbert within the vicinity.
