According to the Antipolo Philippine National Police (PNP), the motorist captured on video physically assaulting a man in front of his crying child has officially reached a settlement with his victim.
The incident, which occurred Saturday night in Barangay San Roque, Antipolo, became a focal point of public discourse after a bystander, Marygrace Aquilino, uploaded footage of the confrontation.
The video showed the driver exiting his Toyota Hilux to berate and strike Crispin Villamor, who was pushing a wooden cart along the road.
Villamor’s account of the night paints a picture of terrifying suddenness. He explained that the pickup truck nearly hit his young daughter.
While he managed to pull the child to safety, the cart made contact with the vehicle. Instead of a conversation, Villamor was met with a slap to the back of the head and alleged death threats.
"It felt like he didn't even see me as a person," Villamor recounted in Tagalog. "The hardest part was being a parent and feeling like I failed to defend my child while she was right there, watching and crying."
On Monday, the two men met at the police station. Chief Investigator Police Captain Arnoil Taga noted that the driver admitted to his mistake, claiming his temper flared because he mistakenly thought his vehicle had been significantly damaged.
Upon realizing there was no actual dent, he expressed remorse for his impulsive aggression.
While the police encouraged Villamor to file formal charges—including physical injuries and grave threats—the father chose a different path.
Seeking a quick resolution to the traumatic chapter, Villamor opted for a settlement. "He didn't want to prolong the agony; he just wanted to end it," Capt. Taga explained.
However, the "peace" found at the police precinct does not mean the driver is entirely in the clear. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has made it clear that administrative accountability is separate from a private settlement.
The driver’s license remains under a 90-day preventive suspension, and he is still required to appear at the LTO headquarters in Quezon City this Wednesday.
LTO officials have issued a Show Cause Order, demanding a notarized explanation as to why his driving privileges should not be permanently revoked.
While the cart-pusher may have chosen forgiveness, the government agency must still decide if such a volatile temperament has any place behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.
In other news, a 20-year-old woman living on the streets was apprehended by Quezon City police for her involvement in the December 10 abduction of a 19-month-old girl named Kiana Jane. Although the primary suspect is now behind bars, the toddler has not yet been found, leaving her parents in a state of desperation as the search continues across Novaliches. The abduction occurred after the suspect befriended the child's parents outside a shop, offering to buy them a meal before disappearing with the infant while supposedly running an errand. Melvin Lorejas, the child’s father, has issued a tearful public appeal, begging for anyone with information or sightings of his daughter to contact the authorities or their family immediately.
Still in other news, a 28-year-old employee in Barangay Sipac-Almacen, Navotas, sustained serious injuries when her left arm was accidentally pulled into an industrial dough-rolling machine. The victim remained wedged in the heavy machinery for nearly sixty minutes while local residents frantically tried to dismantle the rollers using basic household tools. Members of the Navotas Fire Station’s elite rescue unit were ultimately required to use hydraulic extrication equipment, successfully freeing the woman’s limb within five minutes. Following her rescue, the woman was rushed to a medical facility after losing consciousness; her family reports that she is now dealing with extreme psychological trauma alongside physical swelling.
