The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has officially issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against a female driver who was captured on video appearing to sip wine while navigating a busy road.

The video, which circulated rapidly across social media platforms, depicts what many netizens have called a blatant display of arrogance.

The footage shows the woman behind the wheel of a Mazda MX-5, one hand on the steering wheel and the other casually holding a wine glass.

At one point, she raises the glass in a toast to the camera, seemingly unbothered by the potential danger she posed to herself and others.

For the LTO, this was not just a viral moment; it was actionable evidence.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao did not mince words regarding the incident. In a report by Jun Veneracion, Lacanilao expressed frustration at the driver's apparent pride in her violation.

"Ito, 'yung violation nila, parang pinagmamalaki pa sa social media. So, ‘yan 'yung pinagbabawal. Haharap po siya sa pagdinig dito sa amin sa LTO para patunayan niya na hindi alak 'yung iniinom niya," Lacanilao stated firmly.

The agency has placed the driver under a 90-day preventive suspension while the investigation proceeds.

She has been ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division to explain her side.

Her challenge now is to prove that the liquid in the glass was not alcohol—a defense that may be difficult to sell given the context of the video.

This incident serves as a grim prelude to the holiday season. With Christmas and New Year parties fast approaching, officials fear a spike in "driving under the influence" (DUI) cases. In response, the LTO is not just relying on viral videos; they are hitting the streets with technology.

The agency announced the deployment of enforcement units equipped with breath analyzers to strictly enforce the Anti-Drunk and Drug Driving Law.

"Once na nakagawa sila ng aksidente o nakagawa sila ng violation sa kalye o maaksidente sila, maraming perhuwisyo ang nagagawa. Minsan buhay pa, ‘yun ang nawawala," Lacanilao lamented, highlighting the human cost of reckless behavior.

Currently, 400 breath analyzer units are deployed across the country to scientifically measure blood alcohol concentration (BAC).

According to medical standards, a BAC of 0.5% is generally considered the threshold for drunk driving for private motorists.

However, the law is far stricter for professional drivers of public utility vehicles and motorcycles, where the only acceptable alcohol level is zero.

As the festivities ramp up, the LTO’s message is clear: the roads are for safe travel, not for content creation, and certainly not for happy hour.

In other news, a tragic incident unfolded in Kawit, Cavite, when a security guard lost his life after being gunned down by a colleague while both were on active duty. Investigations revealed that the assailant trailed the victim before fatally shooting him in the head, signaling a premeditated act of violence within the workplace premises. Upon apprehension, the suspect confessed to authorities that his actions were driven by pent-up anger over allegedly persistent bullying and humiliation from the deceased. Law enforcement officers successfully captured the gunman, who is now in custody and formally charged with murder as the investigation proceeds.
