The child, who lived in the same residential area, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.
Both babysitters, who are related and residents of Barangay Media Once in Toledo City, were brought to the police station early Thursday morning.
At around 1:50 a.m., the boy’s mother personally filed a complaint against them.

She had earlier instructed the teenagers to take care of her son before leaving their home, stressing that the child had a habit of heading toward the subdivision’s gate.
According to police, one of the babysitters messaged the mother at 4:13 p.m. to report the incident.
The mother immediately rushed to the hospital, where emergency responders had brought her son.
Investigators later reviewed closed-circuit television footage, which showed the boy swimming alone in the pool with no guardian in sight.
Authorities said the babysitters were allegedly asleep when the child made his way to the water.
The revelation raised serious concerns about negligence and prompted the family to pursue formal charges.
Police detained the two teenagers on Thursday at the Talisay City Police Station’s custodial facility.
Officers confirmed that the case will be elevated to court once the complaint paperwork is finalized.
The tragedy sparked renewed reminders about child safety, particularly the need for constant supervision around pools and other potentially hazardous areas.
Local officials emphasized that even brief lapses in attention can lead to fatal consequences, especially when entrusted caregivers fail to remain alert.
In Camalig, Albay, a devastating road accident claimed the lives of eleven people who were riding in a UV Express van, leaving only two survivors. The mangled vehicles had plunged into a nearby waterway, forcing rescue teams to spend eight grueling hours retrieving the victims from the wreckage. Early findings indicate that the collision occurred when a speeding truck reportedly suffered a mechanical issue that caused its brakes to fail before crashing into the van. The truck driver and his helper were among the few who survived and were quickly taken to a hospital for treatment.
In another incident, a woman’s violent behavior inside a fast-food restaurant in Naic, Cavite, went viral after she physically assaulted both a staff member and another customer. Accounts from the scene say the confrontation began when she attempted to pay her bill using her mobile phone instead of cash. Barangay officials reported that the woman displayed erratic actions and issued several threatening remarks throughout the encounter. Responding emergency personnel later expressed concern that her alarming outburst could be linked to a possible underlying mental health issue.
