The victim, identified as Edgar Manaois, a respected barangay kagawad from Binmaley, died after his motorcycle slammed into a parked truck.
The tragedy struck in Barangay Tapuac as Manaois was en route to the Dagupan City Hall. His wife, Leonora Manaois, shared her profound grief, recalling that her husband had said goodbye happily just before leaving.
That final, routine departure quickly transformed into an agonizing memory for his family in Barangay Lomboy, Binmaley.
According to Dagupan City Police Office spokesperson Police Lt. Col. Roderick Gonzales, the preliminary investigation suggests the fatal collision occurred as Edgar Manaois attempted to overtake another vehicle.
"Siya ay tumilapon sa kaniyang motorsiklo," Lt. Col. Gonzales explained. "Tumama siya doon sa gusto niyang overtake na Isuzu utility van."
The impact was severe. Manaois was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but the injuries sustained in the crash were catastrophic, and he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The compounding grief of losing two family members in such rapid succession has been overwhelming for the Manaois family.
Leonora Manaois is now publicly seeking accountability and justice for her late husband. She is appealing to authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine who bears the ultimate fault for the accident—whether it was due to the recklessness of the overtaking maneuver, or negligence related to the truck illegally or improperly parked on the roadside.
“Gusto naming malaman kung sino ang may pagkakamali para mabigyan ng hustisya ang asawa ko,” she stated, channeling her immense sorrow into a demand for transparency and closure.
In response to the family’s plea, the Dagupan City Police have committed to utilizing all available resources.
"Ang ating mga imbestigador ay nagba-backtrack sa mga CCTV para makatulong sa imbestigasyon," Lt. Col. Gonzales confirmed.
Video evidence from nearby establishments along the highway will be crucial in establishing the sequence of events, confirming whether the parked truck was legally situated, and verifying the speed and nature of the attempted overtaking maneuver.
This tragic accident underscores the vulnerability of motorists on busy thoroughfares and serves as a devastating reminder that even a simple errand can turn fatal, leaving a family to mourn a second, unexpected loss.
