Police added they are now working to locate the owner of the carabao, as livestock wandering onto public roads pose serious hazards that could lead to criminal or civil liability.
The incident comes amid a string of recent road accidents involving both vehicles and animals.
Just last week, a motorist in Iloilo suffered serious injuries after hitting a stray cow along a dimly lit provincial road, prompting local officials to remind livestock owners to secure their animals properly.
In another case in North Cotabato, a tricycle driver died after colliding with a roaming horse—a crash that also sparked discussions about enforcing stricter ordinances on loose animals.
Traffic authorities continue to remind motorists about the dangers of speeding and riding without protective gear, especially at night.
They also urge communities to keep domesticated animals fenced or tethered to prevent similar tragedies.
As for Noli’s case, police say the investigation remains ongoing, with hopes that identifying the animal’s owner can help establish accountability and shed more light on the circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
