Two young siblings perish in Lucena blaze; teen drowns in separate All Saints’ Day incident

A somber All Saints’ Day turned tragic in Lucena City after two young brothers died in a late-night house fire in Barangay Dalahican.

Authorities identified the victims as Francis, aged one, and his two-year-old brother Vladimir.

The blaze erupted around 10 p.m. in the home of their 26-year-old aunt, Joyce.

Neighbors immediately rushed to help as flames engulfed the structure, forming a human chain with buckets of water while waiting for fire crews to arrive.

Firefighters were able to declare the fire out nearly an hour later, but the damage had already been done. Investigators said the cause was traced to an unattended improvised lamp.

Responders recovered Francis’ remains inside the home. Vladimir was rushed to Quezon Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Authorities estimate property losses at around P150,000 and said a follow-up investigation continues to determine additional circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a separate All Saints’ Day tragedy in Calauag, a 19-year-old male student drowned while swimming in a river in Barangay Santo Anghel. The victim, identified as Carlo from Bacoor City, Cavite, was reportedly enjoying the holiday with companions when he got into difficulty in the water.

He was pulled from the river and rushed to a nearby medical facility, where he was declared dead.

Both incidents cast a shadow over what is traditionally a day for remembrance, prompting fresh reminders from authorities about fire safety and water safety precautions, especially during holidays when families gather and activities often extend into the night.

In other news, a 23-year-old lady rider, identified as Jessica, died after her motorcycle crashed into an oncoming van in Cauayan City, Isabela. Police investigation suggests the rider lost control of her motorcycle while driving at speed on an uphill road section. The victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The driver of the van is in police custody and faces charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Hom1cide and Damage to Property.
