According to police information, one of their own, Police Staff Sgt. Enrique Gonzalodo, Jr., an active member of the Philippine National Police (PNP), who has confessed to the crime, indicated that he had a three-year illicit relationship with Dignadice.
Their secret, three-year illicit affair has culminated in a murder charge against. P/SSgt Gonzalodo, who is now facing the full force of the law for the fatal shooting of Dignadice.
The circumstances of the death, officially classified by police command as stemming from a “lover's quarrel,” highlight a heartbreaking betrayal and a profound failure of duty by a law enforcement officer.
According to Police Colonel Dennis Wenceslao, the Negros Occidental Police Director, the case moved swiftly from discovery to filing after the suspect's surrender.
The forensic evidence gathered by the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) paints a grim picture.
Police Major West Edquilla, the officer-in-charge for Negros Occidental SOCO, confirmed that Kristine Joy Dignadice died from a single, devastating gunshot wound.
The bullet entered her right shoulder before exiting through her neck, a trajectory that led to her immediate death.
This official finding directly contradicts the narrative presented by Gonzalodo. In his extrajudicial confession to police officials, the Staff Sergeant claimed the shooting was merely an accident.
Despite this claim, Col. Wenceslao confirmed that murder charges have been formally filed against the police officer before the City Prosecutor’s Office.

The seriousness of the charge reflects the police's view that the surrounding evidence negates the suspect’s claim of unintentional hom1cide.
The investigation began after Dignadice, a resident of Victorias City and mother to a 10-year-old child, was reported missing.
Her abandoned Hyundai Accent sedan was later discovered on October 29 with ominous bloodstains inside, parked in an unusual location in a sugarcane field in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.
The breakthrough came three days later, on November 1, when the suspect, Police Staff Sgt. Gonzalodo, a married officer assigned to the Bacolod City Police Office, voluntarily surrendered to the Police Regional Office in Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR).
Following his confession, he led authorities to the location of the victim's body—another sugarcane field, this time in Bago City—where the SOCO team conducted recovery operations.
The incident has triggered a dual investigation. While the criminal case for murder proceeds, the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) has also launched a motu proprio administrative investigation.
PRO-NIR officials have publicly vowed to conduct a transparent probe, assuring the public that there will be no cover-up and that the full force of the law will be applied, regardless of the suspect’s position as a police officer.
News, photos, or videos that arouse the interest of netizens would often go viral on social media, due to the attention netizens give them. These viral posts appeal to the emotions of netizens, and in rare cases, this could also happen to ordinary people, making them very relatable to one's daily life. These stories are among those that people would be able to learn from every day, and apply them in their own lives. Crimes that happen to ordinary people are also those that many give attention to.
It can be recalled that P/SSgt Gonzalodo said he “accidentally” shot his partner, triggering outrage and a regional investigation. Authorities found the woman’s body in a sugarcane field days after her blood-stained vehicle was abandoned. A police official says they are still waiting for the suspect’s signed affidavit and full incident details. A national commissioner vows the officer will face due process and accountability, with admin and criminal cases moving separately.
The police officer surrendered and confessed to killing Kristine Joy Dignadice, a single mother from Victorias City. The nephew of the victim revealed in Bombo Radyo's report that the suspect allegedly even visited the victim’s home first, posing as her boyfriend. The officer led authorities to where he dumped her body in Bago City. Family was stunned as the suspect detailed their last meeting hours before her disappearance.
