The victim’s lifeless body, which was without pants and underwear, was discovered behind the solemn landmark of the Pope John Paul II Tower.
The police have already launched an investigation into the mysterious circumstances of her death.
The initial report indicates a particularly disturbing detail: "Freya" was found without her lower garments, immediately raising red flags for a possible foul play incident.
Her body was later confirmed by her "boy best friend"—a close platonic companion she considered a sibling—who helped authorities identify her based on the blue shirt she was last seen wearing, a uniform for her job at a local construction company.
What makes the case especially heart-wrenching is the account from her best friend, whose identity is being withheld.
He recounted their last contact, a video call just before he started his work shift. "Freya" appeared on the call wearing her distinct blue work attire and mentioned she would only be working a half-day because she had woken up late. This brief, mundane conversation was the last time he saw her alive.
Throughout his duty hours, the best friend received several chats and missed calls from "Freya," but due to poor internet signal and a power outage caused by the rain in his area, he was unable to respond.
When he finally tried to call her back, she didn't answer, and her social media account was already offline.
The final, alarming contact came around 8:00 p.m. via Messenger. The message was troubling: "Freya" claimed her father had thrown her out, despite her residing in a boarding house on Gatuslao Street. She also mentioned meeting her mother.
It was the subsequent messages that truly alarmed her best friend and fueled his suspicion that the account was no longer in "Freya’s" hands.
He noticed a strange, incorrect spelling of their usual affectionate term, "babe," in the chat.
Compounding his doubt, the user of the account then requested money to be sent via an e-wallet for food—a highly unusual request for their relationship.
The account user rationalized the need for a money transfer and the strange messages by claiming to be borrowing internet access from her aunt.
Hoping to verify her safety and the person behind the screen, the best friend requested the cellular number she was supposedly using so he could call her and transfer the requested food money.
His request was met with silence; the message was seen, but no reply was ever received, and communication ceased.
This sudden, unsettling silence and the peculiar final messages now form a crucial part of the ongoing investigation.
Bacolod City police are treating the case with extreme caution, as the suspicious communications right before the discovery of her body suggest the possibility of a staged conversation.
People close to her wonder whether the deceased girl was sending a coded plea for help or if her communication device had already fallen into the hands of a perpetrator.
The search for answers and justice for "Freya" continues, casting a dark shadow over the usually busy Reclamation Area.
