Police investigators from the Talipapa Police Station revealed the alarming details of the stick-up, which quickly escalated into a violent assault.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Von Alejandrino, the Commander of the Talipapa Police Station, the situation turned hostile when the passengers forcefully demanded the driver’s cash earnings.

"Pinilit siya na ibigay ang pera na kita niya, tinutukan siya ng patalim dito sa leeg," Alejandrino explained. "Nu’ng hindi binigay [ng biktima ang pera] sa kaniya (suspek), sinaksak na siya sa likod na leeg niya, tapos tagiliran, sabay kuha ang pera sa harap niya. Sabay takbo na rin 'yung tatlo."

The cab driver was left bleeding, suffering stab wounds to his nape and flank. Despite his injuries, he was able to immediately report the crime, enabling the police to initiate a rapid "hot pursuit" operation.

The manhunt culminated in the arrest of the three suspects in Barangay Balong Bato a short time later.

While the suspects were successfully detained, the police were unfortunately unable to recover the stolen cash, amounting to more than P3,000, nor the knife used in the vicious assault.

In a follow-up investigation, the arrested men were brought to the Talipapa Police Station, where the wounded taxi driver positively identified them as his attackers.

However, all three suspects vehemently denied the allegations of robbery and stabbing. One suspect claimed he and his wife were simply riding a jeepney when police stopped the vehicle and made the arrest.

Another asserted that they were together but were merely pretending to sleep in the taxi to avoid paying, while the third claimed complete ignorance of the incident, stating he was just buying rice in the area and happened to pass by.

Police Colonel Alejandrino noted a worrying trend in the suspects' alleged criminal transition. He stated that the group’s prior activity was reportedly begging, suggesting a shift to more organized, violent crime.

"'Yung modus nila, dati silang nanlilimos, ngayon medyo hindi na sila contended sa ganoon. Ngayon nagre-resort na sila, nag-uusap na sila, may meeting of minds na sila to come up with this parang planned na pang-holdap," Alejandrino remarked.

The three individuals have been formally charged with robbery. Authorities continue their investigation to determine if the suspects have other accomplices or are part of a larger, more organized criminal gang preying on public utility drivers in the area.
