The ongoing investigation stems from a complaint filed by the van’s owner, who tasked an entrusted driver or caretaker with transporting the vehicle from Antipolo, Rizal, all the way to Sarangani Province in Mindanao back in May.

What should have been a routine long-haul delivery turned into a complex case of grand theft auto when the vehicle failed to arrive at its destination.

Instead of safely reaching Sarangani, the van was eventually traced by the victim to General Santos City. However, by the time it was located, the vehicle had been cruelly subjected to a "chop-chop" operation—dismantled for parts, leaving only a ravaged shell.

This swift and brutal method of stripping down stolen vehicles for resale of parts is a signature tactic of organized carnapping rings, often making identification and recovery nearly impossible.

Following an intensive manhunt and intelligence gathering, law enforcement officers managed to track down and arrest one of the primary suspects in Quezon City.

The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation, is now detained in Antipolo and faces serious charges under the Anti-Carnapping Act.

During questioning, the arrested individual immediately denied his direct involvement in the transportation of the stolen vehicle, insisting that he was not the one who drove the van to Mindanao.

While the suspect attempts to distance himself from the physical act of driving the stolen property, authorities maintain that evidence links him directly to the illicit operation of cannibalizing and distributing the vehicle’s parts.

The police have confirmed that the arrested man did not act alone. They have identified at least one other accomplice who is currently at large and believed to be hiding somewhere in the vast Mindanao region.

Investigators are now focused on locating this second suspect and uncovering the full scope of the syndicate, particularly their distribution network for stolen and dismantled vehicle components across the major islands of the Philippines.

The suspect now awaits formal inquest proceedings, and police assure the public that the operation to bring his remaining cohorts to justice will continue.
