A 13-year-old student in Florida was taken into custody after allegedly using ChatGPT on a school-issued device to ask, “How to kill my friend in the middle of class.”

The alarming message immediately triggered an alert from Gaggle, an AI-driven school monitoring system used to detect potentially dangerous behavior. A school resource deputy at Southwestern Middle School in Deland was notified, and law enforcement swiftly responded.

When questioned, the student reportedly said he had intended the message as a prank.

“Just trolling a friend who annoyed him,” he claimed. Authorities did not take his explanation lightly, citing the weight of any threat in a school environment—especially amid nationwide concerns over school violence.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office called the incident “another ‘joke’ that created an emergency on campus,” and appealed to parents to have serious conversations with their children about what may seem like harmless internet use. So far, the boy’s identity and exact charges have not been made public.

This event has sparked renewed debate around the balance between school safety and students’ digital privacy, as AI-based monitoring tools become more common in classrooms.

In another news, two brothers, aged 17 and 19, collapsed and convulsed after using “black cigarette” or “tuklaw." The incident, caught on CCTV, showed one brother fainting before the other also lost control and shook violently.
