A tragic road accident in Mangaldan, Pangasinan claimed the life of a motorcycle rider and left his passenger injured after their motorcycle was hit by an SUV that allegedly overtook another vehicle on Friday.

According to a report from GMA Regional TV Balitanghali, police said the SUV was attempting to overtake a jeepney when it collided head-on with the victims’ motorcycle. CCTV footage from the area showed the forceful impact sending both the rider and his passenger flying off the motorcycle and onto the road.

The rider was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival, while his passenger sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The collision also damaged a parked motorcycle and a pickup truck near the roadside.

Authorities confirmed that the SUV driver tested negative for alcohol during the breath test.

The driver has since expressed willingness to cooperate and is reportedly in contact with the victims’ families regarding the incident.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether reckless driving or speeding contributed to the crash.

Meanwhile, both parties have yet to issue official statements.

Local authorities once again reminded motorists to observe traffic rules, avoid overtaking on narrow or blind roads, and maintain safe driving distances to prevent fatal accidents like this from happening.
