In a statement on Wednesday, DOTr acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez directed the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to cancel the driver’s license permanently following widespread outrage over the incident caught on camera.

The video showed the driver intentionally hitting the student after reportedly being brushed by the motorcycle.

“Iyang driver na ‘yan, walang karapatan magmaneho sa kalsada. Sabihin na nating totoo mang nasagi ‘yung kaniyang sasakyan. Tama bang habulin at bundulin mo ‘yung bata?” Lopez said, stressing that road rage can never be justified.

“No amount of explanation can justify his actions. Mas may edad siya eh, dapat alam niya kung ano ang tama,” he added.

According to the DOTr, Secretary Lopez plans to personally meet with the student’s family and has offered legal assistance should they decide to file charges against the driver.

The agency is also working closely with the police to ensure a proper investigation and possible prosecution.

Meanwhile, the LTO is set to issue a show cause order to the driver as part of the formal administrative process.

Authorities are still trying to get the driver’s side of the story. The incident has once again sparked public debate on driver discipline and accountability on Philippine roads.
