The infant, just three days old, was snatched by a woman who had posed as a nurse, sparking a province-wide search that culminated in a successful police entrapment operation.

The incident unfolded on Sunday, September 14, while the baby's mother, Rocel Pablo, 39, was recovering from a cesarean operation in the OB-Gyne ward.

Her husband, Romeo Carpio, 42, was away at the time, settling hospital bills. The suspect, wearing a green scrub suit and a face mask, approached Pablo and claimed that the infant needed to be taken for a blood test.

Trusting the individual to be a medical professional, the mother handed over her child. It was only after a significant amount of time had passed without the baby's return that the family realized something was terribly wrong.

The parents immediately reported the abduction to authorities, prompting Pangasinan Governor Ramon Guico III to order an urgent and thorough investigation.

Provincial officials and police, led by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, launched a concerted effort to locate the infant and identify the perpetrator.

Police Colonel Arbel Mercullo, the officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, admitted that security lapses, including a lack of CCTV cameras in the ward and a shortage of roving guards, had contributed to the incident.

Through a meticulous investigation and the cooperation of the community, police were able to gather crucial information on the suspect.

This led to the planning and execution of a rescue operation. The suspect was successfully tracked down, and an entrapment was set up, resulting in her arrest and the safe recovery of the infant.

The baby was immediately checked by medical professionals and was later turned over to her relieved and grateful family.

The incident prompted immediate action from the provincial government. Governor Guico has since ordered a full review and ordered tighter security protocols in all hospitals and medical facilities across Pangasinan.

This includes the installation of more CCTV cameras and an increase in security presence to prevent a similar incident from happening again.

While the baby is now back in the safety of her family, the investigation is not yet over. Authorities are conducting a deeper probe to determine if the abductor acted alone or was part of a larger syndicate.
