The victims were ambushed by an assailant, prompting a police investigation into a possible motive that may be linked to illegal drug5 and past threats against one of the victims.

The fatal shooting occurred in Barangay Vintar on Wednesday night. The victims, ages 47 and 45, were residents of Barangay Kahaponan and were traveling toward the town of San Fernando when they were attacked on the roadside.

The suspect's ambush left them with multiple gunshot wounds, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Police Major Jayvee Babaan, the spokesperson for the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office, investigators recovered several .45 caliber shell casings from the crime scene, indicating a single-firearm assault.

While a hot pursuit and dragnet operation failed to immediately apprehend the suspect, authorities now have several persons of interest in the case.

The investigation has revealed a disturbing detail about one of the victims, who had reportedly received death threats earlier this year.

The same individual had also survived a previous ambush attempt in January. These prior incidents have become a key focus for police as they work to establish a motive for the double murder.

Police Major Babaan also confirmed that one of the victims had a criminal record, including previous involvement with illegal drug5 and firearm offenses.

"May mga criminal record na ito even sa illegal drug5 may record siya sa firearm. So definitely we are looking to many angles in relation to the said shooting incident pero itong kasama niya wala kaming nakita na record," Babaan stated. The other victim, it appears, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The police are considering multiple motives, including drug-related retribution or a personal vendetta against the victim with a criminal record.
