The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in the Philippines has confirmed the fatality and is providing assistance to the victim's family for the repatriation of his remains.
According to statements from local authorities and the theme park, the man lost consciousness on the "Frozen Ever After" boat ride on Friday morning, August 29, 2025.
He was with his wife at the time, who immediately alerted park staff when her husband became unresponsive.
Emergency first responders at the park promptly administered first aid and CPR before he was transported by ambulance to North Lantau Hospital.
Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:30 a.m.
The incident was confirmed by the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, which stated it is coordinating with the Lantau Police Headquarters and other local institutions.
"The Consulate General, through its Assistance-to-Nationals Section, confirmed the incident... and contacted the next of kin of the deceased to convey our heartfelt condolences and to assist them with the process of repatriating the deceased's remains," the DFA said in a statement.
The consulate is also ensuring the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
Details emerging from the investigation suggest the man's death was linked to pre-existing health issues.
The South China Morning Post reported, based on police information, that the deceased had a decade-long history of heart disease and high blood pressure, for which he required regular medicines.
His wife shared his medical history with authorities, which has been cited as a key factor in the tragedy.
In a separate statement, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort expressed its deep regret over the guest's passing and extended its condolences to his family.
A spokesperson for the theme park clarified that an "initial investigation has shown the incident is not related to ride safety."
The "Frozen Ever After" ride, a slow-moving boat attraction located in the park's World of Frozen land that opened in late 2023, was temporarily closed following the incident.
According to the park's website, the closure is due to "operational adjustments" and is expected to last until mid-September.
This unfortunate event serves as a somber reminder of the potential health risks for individuals with pre-existing conditions when participating in high-stress or physically demanding activities, even at a seemingly calm attraction.
The prompt response by park personnel and local authorities was a crucial part of the immediate post-incident care.
The Philippine Consulate General continues to work closely with Hong Kong authorities to finalize all necessary arrangements, including the required documents for the official transport of the deceased back to the Philippines, as the family navigates this devastating loss.
