A tragic accident claimed the lives of four family members after their motorcycle with a sidecar, locally known as a “kulong-kulong,” collided with an oncoming vehicle along the national highway in Infanta, western Pangasinan, on Monday afternoon, August 25.

Police identified the fatalities as Allan Henry Sanchez, who was driving the kulong-kulong; his wife, Crisanta Sanchez; and their two young children. All of them were residents of Barangay Nayom in Infanta, Manila Bulletin reported.

According to the initial investigation, the Sanchez family was traveling along the highway at around 2:30 p.m. when their vehicle accidentally struck a tree branch on the roadside.

The collision caused Allan to lose control of the kulong-kulong, which then veered into the opposite lane and crashed into a Hyundai van.

The impact of the collision left the family with severe injuries. Responding authorities immediately brought them to the nearest hospital, but doctors declared all four dead on arrival.

The Hyundai van’s driver was identified as Christian Bernardez, a resident of Calasiao, Pangasinan.

He is currently under the custody of the Infanta police station pending further investigation.

Authorities are conducting follow-up inquiries to determine whether charges will be filed against him.

Police have reminded motorists to exercise extreme caution when navigating provincial highways, where narrow roads, roadside obstructions, and mixed vehicle types often increase the risk of accidents.

The community of Barangay Nayom is mourning the sudden loss of the Sanchez family, whose tragic deaths have drawn sympathy from residents and local officials.
