The body of the 55-year-old victim was found in a state of decomposition inside her home after neighbors noticed a foul odor coming from the residence.
According to a police report, the victim's remains were discovered on Wednesday in her house in Barangay Northern Poblacion.
The teenager surrendered to authorities a day later and, in a grim confession, provided a chilling account of the events that transpired.
The minor told police that on August 15, he had an argument with his mother after she refused to give him food. In a fit of rage, he allegedly punched her, causing her to fall and strike her head on the floor.
Instead of seeking immediate help for his unconscious mother, the boy confessed that he chose to cover up the crime.
He carried his mother's body to a bedroom, cleaned the blood from the floor, and placed a cover over her face before leaving the house.
The cover-up attempt was only exposed after neighbors, alarmed by the strong smell, alerted local authorities.
Police have announced that they intend to file a parricide case against the minor. However, due to his age, the final decision on how the case will proceed rests with the court, which will determine if he can be held criminally liable under the law.
The Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) issued a statement expressing their grief over the tragic incident. They also revealed that the boy came from a "dysfunctional family with separated parents" and is now under the care of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) office.
