A fatal incident in Lantapan, Bukidnon, has left a community in shock after a 14-year-old boy was killed in what authorities are describing as an accidental shooting during a confrontation at a local elementary school.

According to a preliminary report from the Bukidnon Provincial Police Office, the tragic event occurred when a school employee, identified as a caretaker, attempted to apprehend the minor.

During the struggle, a .38 revolver carried by the minor discharged, with the bullet fatally striking him. Police confirmed that investigators found the boy on the floor with the handgun nearby.

Police Major Jayvee Babaan of the Bukidnon Provincial Police Office stated in a media briefing that the minor was in possession of the weapon, and the fatal shot was fired as the two individuals grappled.

He emphasized that the shooting appeared to be an unintentional act, saying the weapon "went off accidentally" during the scuffle, hitting the teenager in the body.

The incident has raised questions about why a young person would be carrying a firearm and highlights the complex issues surrounding youth involvement in crime.
