Instead of being a victim, police revealed he had lost his company’s money to cockfighting and later staged a “holdup me” story.
According to a report by James Agustin on Unang Balita Friday, the rider went to La Loma Police Station claiming that he had been robbed in Barangay N.S. Amoranto, Quezon City.
“Tinutukan daw siya ng baril pagpa-hold up sa kaniya. Tapos binigay niya 'yung nakuha niyang pera. Nang pinuntahan ng mga follow-up operatives natin 'yung area at na-review 'yung CCTV, eh nakita na wala naman palang nangyari roon sa area,” explained Police Lieutenant Colonel Jose Luis Aguirre, commander of La Loma Police Station.

The rider was supposed to remit around P326,000 to the company. However, only a few pieces of jewelry and about P10,600 in cash were recovered from him.
“Umamin po siya na nadispalko ko niya 'yung pera. Ginamit niya daw sa pagsabong. So inamin niya naman po ito sa kaniyang manager,” Aguirre added.
Investigators said the suspect had been employed by the jewelry company for nearly two years.
When pressed for further comment, the rider simply replied, “No comment po ako, sir.”
Authorities reminded the public to be cautious of the “holdup me” modus, where individuals falsely claim they were robbed after losing or spending entrusted money.
The suspect now faces charges of qualified theft.
