Mary Ann Magdamit, 31, of Carson, California, entered a guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud in a Los Angeles federal court on Monday.
The former postal worker, who was based at the Torrance Main Post Office, now faces a statutory maximum sentence of up to 30 years in federal prison.
According to court documents, Magdamit's criminal activities spanned from at least 2022 to July 2025.
During this time, she systematically stole mail containing personal checks, identification information, and debit and credit cards.
Prosecutors revealed that Magdamit didn't stop there; she would activate the stolen bank cards online, use them to make purchases, and sell some of the cards to her co-conspirators
She also facilitated a scheme for her accomplices to cash stolen checks using counterfeit identity documents.
The investigation into Magdamit's crimes gained momentum in December 2024, when a search of her apartment uncovered a trove of stolen goods.
Authorities seized 133 stolen credit and debit cards, 16 U.S. Department of Treasury checks, and a loaded "ghost gun"—an un-serialized Glock clone with an extended magazine.
They also found numerous luxury goods, which she had purchased with the stolen cards.
Evidence showed that she used the stolen cards to book international trips to destinations like Turks and Caicos and Aruba.
Magdamit's arrest on July 1, 2025, came after agents learned she was still making fraudulent purchases with victims' credit cards.
A second search of her apartment on the day of her arrest yielded even more stolen cards.
In a move that underscored her recklessness, Magdamit documented her luxurious lifestyle on Instagram, posting photos of her high-end purchases, lavish vacations, and stacks of hundred-dollar bills.
As part of her plea agreement, she has agreed to forfeit a Rolex watch and other luxury items.
U.S. District Judge John Walter has scheduled Magdamit's sentencing hearing for October 27.
The case was a collaborative effort, with investigations conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Treasury Inspector General of Tax Administration.
