Businessman found dead in car; ex-employee confesses to killing

A 36-year-old businessman was discovered dead inside his Toyota Innova in Barangay Loob, San Antonio, Quezon province, in the early hours of Tuesday.

PMaj. Kayvin Ballogan, officer-in-charge of the San Antonio Municipal Police Station, said they received a report around 2:00 a.m. regarding an abandoned vehicle parked along the national highway.

Upon arrival, responding officers immediately noticed blood pooling near the car door. Inside, they found the lifeless body of the victim sprawled across the middle seat.

The victim was identified as Nestor Calalo, a resident of Lipa City, Batangas, and owner of an auto mechanic shop. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

It was later revealed that Calalo had been missing for several hours after informing his family that he was headed to Rosario, Batangas on Monday morning.

“May kikitain daw po na sasakyan itong victim kasi nagbabuy and sell,” said Maj. Ballogan.

A few hours following the discovery, a man known as alias “Larry,” a former employee of the victim, surrendered and confessed to the crime.

“Dati niya kasing amo itong victim, parang may alitan sila noon, 'yun ang parang naging motivation niya,” Ballogan added.
The police chief further disclosed, “Parang holdapin daw, ang sabi naman ng asawa may P600,000 na dala." The money remains missing.

Larry confessed to meeting Calalo in Barangay Calantas, Rosario, Batangas, at around 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

“Parang pinagtiwalaan ulit niya kasi dati niyang tao,” Ballogan said.

Larry also claimed he was with three other accomplices during the crime. The victim was shot in the same location where his body was found. Larry admitted to driving the vehicle to San Antonio.

ABS-CBN News sought Larry’s statement, but he refused to be interviewed. The victim’s family also declined to comment. Authorities continue to pursue the three remaining suspects.

Still in other news, four individuals were injured in an explosion on Tayuman and Dagupan Streets in Tondo, Manila. The blast was caused by a dismantled air-conditioning compressor that was being scavenged. One of the victims sustained a severed hand and another suffered a jaw injury, while two others had minor injuries. The Manila Police District's Explosive Ordnance Division and Scene of the Crime Operatives are investigating the incident and have ruled out a bomb as the cause.
