The fatal collision occurred on Saturday, August 2, 2025, when the family's motorcycle was struck by a truck on the National Highway.
According to a report from ABS-CBN's TV Patrol and corroborated by information from the Tanauan Municipal Police Station, the incident took place around 3:00 p.m. in Barangay Mohon.
The family, identified as residents of Barangay Cabalagnan in the same town, were riding a single motorcycle driven by the 47-year-old father. He was with his wife and their son, who was of legal age.
The police investigation, supported by crucial CCTV footage from the area, pieced together the moments leading up to the crash.
The family’s motorcycle was in the process of crossing the national highway when it was violently hit by a truck traveling from the direction of Palo, Leyte.
The impact was reportedly so severe that all three riders were thrown from the motorcycle, sustaining serious injuries.
The CCTV footage revealed that the truck driver, identified as Leo G. Palompon, a 32-year-old resident of Barangay Tugop, Tanauan, attempted to swerve to avoid the collision.
However, he was unable to prevent the crash. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors pronounced the father and son dead on arrival.
The mother, whose identity is being withheld, is currently receiving treatment for her injuries and is in stable condition.
The vehicles involved in the collision, including the boom truck and the motorcycle, have been impounded by the Tanauan Municipal Police Station as part of their ongoing investigation.
Palompon was immediately taken into custody and is now detained at the station. He is expected to face criminal charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double hom1cde and serious physical injuries.
