Authorities are investigating the death of a 23-year-old student whose burned body was found early morning on July 22 in Purok 2B, Aglayan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The victim was identified as Christian Anthony Villaser, a Mechanical Engineering student from Central Mindanao University and a native of Ubay, Bohol.

His identity was confirmed by a friend, known by the alias “Zed,” who recognized a keychain and compass found with the victim.

These items were personally given by Zed to Villaser. Additionally, the victim’s uncle also positively identified him at the scene.

CCTV footage showed Villaser leaving his rented residence before the incident.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket, light-colored pants, and sandals. Police noted that the clothing on the burned body matched what Villaser had been wearing in the footage.

A plastic bottle was recovered near the crime scene, which investigators suspect was used to hold the gasoline that set the victim ablaze. However, whether the incident was a case of foul play or self-inflicted remains under investigation.

Authorities are currently gathering more evidence and testimonies to determine the circumstances surrounding Villaser’s death. They have yet to confirm if there were any signs of struggle or other persons involved.

As of this writing, the motive behind the incident remains unclear, and investigators are exploring all possible angles. Villaser’s death has left his family and friends seeking answers as to what truly happened that morning in Bukidnon.
