The tragic incident, which unfolded in Barangay Cansiboy on Tuesday evening, has led to the immediate apprehension of a 50-year-old neighbor, who is now the primary suspect in the heinous crime.
According to initial reports from GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, the victim was last seen at home when her grandmother left for duty as a local village watchman (tanod).
Upon the grandmother’s return, the child was nowhere to be found, prompting an urgent search by family members and concerned residents.
The frantic search culminated in the discovery of the young girl’s body in a deserted structure within the same barangay. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In a disturbing turn of events, the suspected perpetrator reportedly even joined in the community’s search efforts for the missing child before his identity was brought to light.
During the course of the police investigation, a crucial witness came forward, providing information that directly implicated the 50-year-old neighbor, leading to his swift arrest.
Police Lieutenant Aileen Salarda, the Deputy Chief of Police of Burauen, confirmed the apprehension of the suspect.
However, due to the highly sensitive nature of the case, authorities have exercised caution in releasing further specific details to the public.
Lieutenant Salarda noted that the suspect has, thus far, been uncooperative with investigators and has yet to provide a formal statement regarding the alleged crime.
This non-cooperation presents an immediate challenge for law enforcement as they work to build a comprehensive case.
The Burauen Municipal Police Station is meticulously gathering evidence and conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death and the alleged molestation.
Cases involving minors are handled with utmost confidentiality and sensitivity to protect the victim’s privacy and ensure the integrity of the legal process.

The suspect is expected to face appropriate charges as the investigation progresses. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward and assist in bringing justice for the young victim.
