In a press briefing held at Camp Crame, PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo announced that all police personnel must pass the mandatory annual physical fitness test, Abante reported.

This is in line with General Torre's call for a fitter, more capable police force.

“Gusto ni Gen. Torre na hindi lang sa papel makikita na fit ang pulis kundi din sa kanyang pangangatawan,” said Fajardo, emphasizing that physical appearance and fitness are both important in maintaining the credibility and functionality of the police.

While overweight officers who pass the test may retain their roles, Fajardo noted that being visibly unfit still reflects poorly on the image of the police force.

Physical fitness, she added, is crucial for performing law enforcement duties effectively.

The new policy imposes career consequences for repeated failure: police officers who fail the physical fitness test twice consecutively will be disqualified from promotions and schooling opportunities within the force.

General Torre’s move underscores a broader campaign to boost professionalism and discipline in the PNP. By enforcing fitness standards, the agency aims to enhance both performance and public perception.

This initiative is expected to be rolled out nationwide in the coming months.
