According to Police Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, officer-in-charge of the Bago City Police Station, Buendia was reportedly crossing a pedestrian lane, intending to head towards the town of Valladolid for work, when the tragedy unfolded.

Initial police investigations revealed that Buendia was first struck by a Toyota Avanza Wagon, driven by 30-year-old Philip Jansen Cantiller of Deca Homes Subdivision, Barangay Cabug, Bacolod City.

Cantiller’s vehicle was traveling from the south northbound. The impact violently threw Buendia across the highway to the opposite lane.

In a compounding tragedy, she was then run over by a Toyota Yaris, driven by 59-year-old Salvador Castro, a resident of Barangay Crossing Pulupandan, Pulupandan, who was traveling in the opposite direction.
The sheer force of the collision was so severe that Buendia’s six-month-old fetus was expelled from her womb at the scene.

Emergency responders rushed Buendia to a hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival due to the catastrophic injuries sustained. The unborn child also perished.
Both drivers, Philip Jansen Cantiller and Salvador Castro, are currently detained at the Bago City Police Station.
Police Lt. Col. Pico stated that while both drivers are under custody, there is a possibility that the victim’s family may opt for an out-of-court settlement.
However, formal charges, including reckless imprudence resulting in hom1cide and potentially multiple hom1cide charges given the death of both mother and unborn child, are expected to be filed if no settlement is reached.
