The incident has sent ripples through the local law enforcement community, highlighting the dangers faced by officers even off-duty.

The victim was identified as Police Executive Master Sergeant Geoffrey Angub. According to a report by Moristo Jun Pandamon on Super Radyo dzBB, the tragic shooting occurred around 2:00 AM on Tuesday in Barangay Kalawag, Isulan.

Police investigations indicate that Angub was simply walking home when he was ambushed by the father-and-son duo, who then opened fire on him.

The immediate response by authorities led to the launch of a comprehensive hot pursuit operation across provincial lines.

The concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies bore fruit when the two suspects were successfully tracked down and apprehended in Polomolok, South Cotabato, where they had allegedly sought refuge.

Following their arrest, the father and son were transported back to the Isulan police detention facility, where they now await the formal filing of charges in connection with Angub’s death.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Julius Malcontento, the chief of Isulan Police, as conveyed in a report by Efren Mamac on GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, stated that “personal grudge” is emerging as the primary motive behind the killing.

This assessment is based on preliminary investigations and witness testimonies. “On the part of our investigation, may nakuha na kaming statement ng mga witnesses natin at the same time, may pieces of evidence naman,” Malcontento affirmed, indicating that investigators have gathered sufficient evidence and witness accounts to support their current theory regarding the motive.

The death of Police Executive Master Sergeant Angub underscores the risks inherent in police work, even during personal time.

The rapid apprehension of the suspects, however, demonstrates the inter-agency cooperation and swift response capabilities of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in addressing crimes against their own ranks.

The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges in maintaining peace and order in communities, particularly when personal conflicts escalate to violence.

Authorities continue to consolidate all evidence and prepare the necessary charges to ensure accountability for the fatal shooting.
