The witness also expressed concern regarding one of the youths, who appeared to be carrying an unidentified object, potentially a weapon.
“‘Yung isa, may dala, ‘di mo alam kung baril o pen gun. May hawak kasi ‘yung bata, ‘di mo alam baka makadamay pa ng ibang inosente,” they added.
The violent incident caused several passengers to disembark from the jeepney. Barangay Unang Sigaw Public Safety team leader, Dennis Delos Reyes, reported that they immediately pursued the group of youths following the assault, but they managed to escape.
However, through the circulating video, five of the minors were identified and apprehended on Thursday.
Investigations revealed that the assault was motivated by revenge and jealousy. It was discovered that the assaulted couple had ties to a group from Malabon allegedly involved in an ice pick attack against one of the assailants.
The five apprehended youths, aged between 13 and 17, are to be placed under the care of the Social Services Development Department.
Delos Reyes acknowledged the challenges posed by such disturbances in their barangay and emphasized their commitment to maintaining security and enforcing curfew regulations.
They have increased the frequency of their roving hours, and those youths that are caught breaking curfew are given community service within the barangay.
Local officials have issued a renewed call to parents, urging them to closely monitor their children to prevent their involvement in criminal activities and ensure their safety.
