- However, on her second year, the maltreatment started, which included burning her arm with a flat iron, hitting her with a chair, stabbing her with scissors, kicking, punching, dragging her down the stairs, to the point that she got blind in her left eye
- Eventually, she was able to seek help from his male employer, and it was only when she was able to come home in January 2025

Leslie Diaz, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), endured severe abuse at the hands of her female employer in Saudi Arabia, resulting in blindness in one eye and multiple injuries.

Her story was featured on GMA’s Reporter’s Notebook, shedding light on the brutal treatment she suffered during her employment abroad.
Diaz left for Saudi Arabia in June 2022 and initially experienced fair treatment from her employers.
However, her ordeal began in her second year of employment when the abuse started escalating.

She was subjected to relentless physical violence, including being burned with a flat iron, struck with a chair, stabbed with scissors, kicked, punched, and dragged down the stairs.
The relentless brutality eventually led to the loss of vision in her left eye.
Despite the ongoing maltreatment, Diaz struggled to find a way out. It was only when she sought help from her male employer that she was finally able to escape her harrowing situation.
After enduring years of abuse, she managed to return home to the Philippines in January 2025.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has since stepped in to support Diaz. OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio personally visited her and provided financial assistance. I
n a video shared by GMA, Ignacio assured that Leslie would not be neglected and that the agency would continue to assist her as she recovers from her traumatic experience.
Diaz’s case highlights the dangers some OFWs face and the urgent need for stronger protections to prevent such abuses.
